Of a sound and musical piece co-created with Dominique Blais. Commissioned by Art By Translation for the exhibition Time Capsule 2045.
The concept behind this work is the idea of hydrogen as the main energy source and carrier, in the near future. Unstable and thus dangerous, hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe, as major constituant of the sun and the stars. On earth, it can mostly be found in water molecules. Hence the need to break this molecule to produce hydrogen on one part and oxygen on the other. This separation of is obtained through an electro-chemical reaction called water electrolysis. The sound recording of such a reaction serves as the base material for the piece. The listener can hear the flow of sonic shivers of gases in the water, plunged in a somehow spooky soundscape, evoking large natural spaces transformed by unforeseeable environmental changes.
